Summary

By nature, I am friendly and cheerful. I have a natural aptitude for problem solving and I enjoy working with others.

I am a qualified Social Worker with over twenty years’ experience working directly with disadvantaged young people. After eleven years in statutory social services, in 2002 I moved over to Connexions, working primarily in secondary and specialist schools, providing individual and group mentoring alongside a range of alternative education packages.

More recently, I have worked as copywriter for a web design & marketing company while completing an MA in Creative Writing.

For the past six months, I have been training to become a secondary school teacher on a school-based teacher training course. This was a mixed blessing at best.

While looking for the next stage in my career I have returned to copywriting, producing web content, blogs and SEO copy for use in online marketing.

My career within social services evolved over a period of eleven years. Starting in residential childcare, I worked on a reception and assessment group, supporting children when they first came into local authority care. As well as maintaining a stable environment the principal skills required were patience, understanding and humour. After several years in residential care I moved to the aftercare team, helping young people prepare for and move towards independence. During this time I was seconded onto the DipSW, gaining the qualification while continuing to work.
